Boost your berries

Cold cucumber slices love your body. Cut a cucumber into thin slices and apply directly over closed eyelids. The high percentage of water in cucumber will help hydrate your eyes and the natural acids will soothe skin irritations and swelling. Raw and cold potato slices also work in a similar way.

Worried about sun damage? Reverse the effects with a skin peel

Most of us love soaking up the summer sun. We feel happier and the vitamin B we get from sunlight is fantastic for our general health too. However the sun also causes damage to our skin. You probably can’t even see the damage that has happened as most it isn’t visible to the naked eye. Sunburn and freckles are the external signs of sun damage but they only tell a fraction of the story.
Skin Peels
One popular treatment for sun damaged skin in to use a chemical peel or skin peel. We offer several different formulas but the one we recommend for sun damage and hyperpigmentation is Skin Tech Easy Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel.

Easy TCA peels are a powerful formula that must be administered by a nurse or doctor, not a beautician. However, when applied in the proper setting by a professional it is one of the safest peels and most effective peels.

An Easy TCA peel requires multiple applications over a period of about a month. If you choose this treatment you’ll need to visit once a week to have the peel applied. Following the application and removal of the peel your skin will begin to flake and peel, causing some irritation and revealing some redness. Although these results may look a little unpleasant your skin won’t experience any actual ‘downtime’, meaning you can go about your normal routine if you wish. There’s no need to stay away from sunlight. Each peel will target the uneven skin discolouration, lightening it and reducing the sun spots that have built up at the surface and deeper dermal layers.

Once treatment is complete your skin will look fresher, feel firmer and your sun spots will be greatly reduced.

At Swann Beauty we offer Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal as a permanent solution to unwanted body hair. An intense pulse of light damages the hair follicles without causing any damage to the surrounding cells. If permanent hair removal isn’t for you then opt for waxing to remove the hairs from the root, giving you a couple of weeks before it grows back.

Megawhite: the new way to whiten your teeth

Megawhite is the latest treatment to take the beauty world by storm. Celebrities including the stars of Hollyoaks, The Only Way is Essex, and Britain’s Next Top Model have all used and endorsed Megawhite because it whitens teeth with fantastic results.

What is Megawhite?

Many tooth whitening treatments use hydrogen peroxide to remove stains, but some studies have shown that this chemical may be carcinogenic and could weaken the teeth. Megawhite is different. It uses sodium bicarbonate to gently, yet thoroughly, lift stains out of the deep pores in your teeth.

How does Megawhite work?

The sodium bicarbonate solution is applied to the teeth via a gum shield which is inserted into the mouth. A laser is then directed at the gum shield where it activates the whitening formula, causing it to release oxygen and pressure. The oxygen and cleaning agents alter the colour of the teeth from brown/yellow to white without affecting the structure of the tooth’s enamel.

What happens after the treatment?

The treatment process shouldn’t last any longer than around 20 minutes so it’s the kind of treatment you can squeeze into your lunch hour! Everyone is different, but most people can expect to achieve average results of around 9 shades lighter, depending on the severity of the staining before treatment.

After treatment the pores on your teeth will remain open for around 30 minutes so it’s best to avoid eating until after that time, and try to stick to light coloured foods and drinks for the first 24 hours after treatment.

5 ways to fight wrinkles

Although ageing is unfortunately unavoidable, it is possible to delay the inevitable and have younger, plumper, healthier looking skin for longer by living a healthy lifestyle and looking after your skin.

Here are five ways that you can fight wrinkles to keep your skin looking youthful and radiant for longer.

Start using anti-ageing creams early

Anti-ageing products will thicken your skin and reduce wrinkles, for firmer and smoother skin.  Rather than waiting until you’ve already got wrinkles before lathering on the anti-wrinkle cream you should start early.

Wash and exfoliate

Looking after your skin by regularly washing and exfoliating will help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Dry and neglected skin will only make any existing wrinkles appear far more noticeable.

Don’t smoke

Smoking can drastically age your skin as it takes away the oxygen and nutrients that keep your skin looking young and fresh.   People who smoke are far more likely to suffer from premature skin ageing than those who don’t smoke.

Wear sunglasses and sun protection

Sun exposure and UV radiation are another major cause of premature skin ageing.  If you’re going to be out in the sun make sure you apply a high factor sunscreen at least 30 minutes before.  The skin around your eyes is particularly thin and sensitive so make you keep it protected behind a pair of sunglasses.

Eat a balanced diet

If you want healthy, glowing, smooth skin then it’s important that you eat a balanced diet and drink enough water.  Healthy foods that are full of nutrients like vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fatty acids will help your body to fight the ageing process and keep your skin looking younger for longer.

5 beauty regimes to avoid before your wedding

We’re all for self improvement and we know how many brides are striving to look good on their wedding day but today we’re here to offer a word of warning. Try all the beauty tricks you like in the months leading up to your wedding but never try something new 1 week before the big day!

This is our definitive list of beauty no-nos to stay away from 7 days before your wedding:
1.       Skin peels
Skin peels are fantastic, we love them. They can clear up acne, scars, skin pigmentation and the effects of sun damage among other benefits but we always recommend you plan a skin peel in advance and at least 7 days before a big event.

We offer a number of different skin peel methods, one of which is Easy TCA peels. Easy TCA peels can eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, acne scarring and hyper pigmentation. Treatment is easy and safe but your skin will feel irritated. You’ll experience peeling, flaking skin for 3 to 4 days after each treatment. This is normal but of course won’t look good in pictures. As dead skin falls away the fresh layers beneath will appear quite pink, again, not a good look in photos.

Make sure your leave enough time between your skin peel and your wedding for the treatment to complete and your skin to return to a normal appearance.

Our last blog post concentrated on the little things you can do to get beach-ready quickly. This week we’re offering our favourite workout tracks to get you through the gruelling gym sessions.

Achieving your dream body should be fun. If you can’t face the treadmill then at least these five tracks will make you want to get up and dance!

Eye of the tiger: The theme music from Rocky should be able to motivate you as you leather the punch bag and give the speedball a right going over. Put yourself in Stallone’s shoes as you spar with a training partner or lift mega weights with this thumping track from Survivor on in the background.
Call on me: Eric Prydz classic workout track. Play it nice and loud and you can imagine you have the body of the training instructor in the video, just try not to look in the mirror for too long.
Lose yourself: Eminem at his best, this track builds nicely and as you start to sweat it climaxes in a frenzy of words. Look, if you had one shot, or opportunity to work out to one of the best rappers of his generation wouldn’t you like to listen to Marshal as he spits his lyrics on this classic anthem?
The Rockafella Skank: Fatboy Slim knows how to get bodies moving and the video to this track proves this case. Workout to this happy track from the ‘You’ve come a long way’ album from 1998 and it takes away some of the pain.
We found love: No workout would be the same without little old Rihanna on in the background so try this track which features Calvin Harris and it’s great for working out on the treadmill.
