We asked 11 beauty bloggers and vloggers over 40 to tell us what skin care products they can’t live without.

As dedicated writers and video makers in the beauty industry, they understand what it’s like to shop around for that all-important cream that will smooth fine lines and give your skin that youthful glow.

Skin care requirements vary from person to person, so finding the perfect products and refining your routine is a personal process but we decided to ask the experts to give you a nudge in the right direction. Each of these fabulous over forty women has given us a peek into their own routine so you know where to start your shopping.

1. Sissi - Beauty4Free2U

Sissi Nuthman, fashion and beauty blogger at Beauty4Free2U believes that the best skin care products for over 40's women are:

- A quality Vitamin C serum (preferable with 20%) to achieve an even skin tone (such as the belitae Vitamin C serum)

- Retinol cream to exfoliate the skin (such as the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair)

- A toner that contains Glycolic Acid to get glowing fresh skin (such as the Pixi Glow Tonic).

2. Nathalie - The Beauty Diva

Nathalie, who vlogs at TheBeautyDiva on Youtube shared her three essential skin care products for women over 40:

- Retin A cream

- AHA or BHA Acids (depending on your skin type) – BHA for more oily skin tones

- Sunscreen

3. Susie - 40andHolding

40andHolding blogger Susie Truett:

“Without hesitation, my 3 must-have skin care products are a retinol product, a vitamin c serum and sunscreen!"

Avene RetrinAL 0.1 Intensive Cream is one of my favourites. It contains Retinaldehyde which has been clinically proven to work faster than Retinol.  This cream will address the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles and also contains peptides to address the firmness and tone of the skin.

A good Vitamin C Serum improves skin tone, firmness and a slew of other anti-ageing benefits. Timeless 20% Vitamin  C + E Ferulic Acid Serum is a good option as it contains the right percentage and form of Vitamin C to deliver results.

Perhaps the most important step is to use a sunscreen daily to protect your skin against further sun damage.  I like a mineral sunscreen as I find it less irritating to sensitive skin.  La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 provides broad-spectrum coverage and wears well both on its own and under makeup.

4. Kathy - Kathy Aay Beauty

Kathy from Kathy Aay Beauty says she’s actually not loyal to any one skin care brand and instead has provided us with these helpful tips to organise your skin care regime:

“I believe in 4 steps for skin care:

- Cleanse – (sometimes makeup removal oil first then cleanse the whole face again)

- Exfoliate – (Every other day)

- Nourish/ Serum/Oils – (Varies for a 6 week period each product)

- Moisturizer

And I wear sunscreen under my makeup.”

5. Lori - All That Beauty With Lori

Beauty Vlogger Lori of All That Beauty With Lori swears by:

The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion - As I learned Vitamin A in skin care is a must and essential as it gives healthy skin cell production. It is a group of compounds that is the form as we know Retinol, Retinoids or most use Retin A the strongest of Vitamin A. Also Vitamin A stimulates Fibroblasts known for developing the very tissue that helps firmness and healthy youthful looking skin. So I would always recommend to anyone as we age, some form of Vitamin A, it is a must-have in my skin care.

Derma E Anti Wrinkle Glycolic Cleanser With Papaya - This is one of my must-have cleansers, Glycolic Acid is known to exfoliate and remove the outermost layer of dead cells. It is also well known to help scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, and skin discolouration. But any Glycolic Cleanser is good, if they discontinued this one, I would look for another.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% - “Coming from someone who has had cystic acne in my time, this is a must for me. Niacinamide helps to reduce skin blemishes and any congestion. This also helps control the sebum and pores are more diminished.”

6. Samantha - Fake Fabulous

The for-real fabulous Samantha Blair, runner of fashion and beauty blog Fake Fabulous won’t be without:

- Boots Rosewater and glycerin

- Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream

- DHC cleansing oil

7. Kathy - Kathy's Beauty Care Chats

“If I could pick only 3 skincare must-haves, they would be products that make my skin feel active. They would be products that I actually KNOW are doing good things for my skin. They are:

Tretinoin - Tretinoin is an absolute non-negotiable. I’ve been using it for 2 years and the exciting part? My skin is 2 years older and looks better than when I started! I use Tretinoin most nights, but I do give my skin breaks one or two nights a week. On those nights, I use a strong Retinol.

Acid (favourites include: Obagi Exfodern Forte and The Ordinary Lactic 10%, Tarte Tingling Knockout Treatment) - I absolutely adore acids. I’m not a dermatologist, but they say our skin cell turnover slows as we age. I try to use lots of different kinds of acids, so I don’t miss any of the benefits. I use one of these every morning, depending on how active I want my skin. I also like to do a stronger AHA once a week.

Moisturizer – For a moisturizer I would choose the CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion. It’s not too heavy but still nice and moisturizing. It has a gel/cream consistency and it also has Niacinamide, Ceramides, and Hyaluronic Acid. I love it, and it’s budget-friendly!”

- An affordable Face washing machine which can be found in my video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlgSRWZ6MO0&t=13s

9. Kristinn - MsKristinn321

Kristinn believes, as we do, that skin care is a personal process that’s different for everyone, so she’s given three products everyone should have in their arsenal and her personal favourite products she can’t live without:

- A serum that addresses whatever specific issue, I.e. fine lines and wrinkles, texture, dullness, etc., you want to target and improve.

- A good moisturizer.

- A good eye cream, as we age our eye area can become one of the biggest problem areas, so I think it’s vital to start young and continue with a good eye cream.

“As for the three products that I can’t do without, as of right now, they are the Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream, Ole Henricksen Truth Serum, and the Trunk Elephant Protini Peptide Moisturizer.”

10. Dawn - Dawn's Life, over 40

Dawn's Life, over 40 Youtube channel runner Dawn says her top three products are:

- Mad Hippy Vitamin C Serum

- Derma E AHA overnight peel

- Andalou Naturals goji berry peptide cream.

11. Erica - Glam and Uncensored

Erica of Glam and Uncensored is more brand loyal than product loyal, she says:

My top three skincare companies are:

- Paula's Choice

- Peter Thomas Roth

- Strivectin
