At some point in their lives most women will experience cellulite. This unfavourable condition affects more women than men, and is usually found on the thighs and bottom. Cellulite can be identified by its dimpled, lumpy appearance, similar to orange peel. The fact that 95% of women will suffer from cellulite provides little consolation to those women who no longer feel comfortable wearing shorts, skirts or swimwear in public.

What is cellulite?

Before you can understand how Mesotherapy works in ridding your thighs of cellulite, it’s important to understand what cellulite is and how it is formed. Cellulite is caused when changes in metabolism, too much dieting, hormonal factors and genetic factors lead to a build up of fatty tissue, coupled with fluid retention.

What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy was originally devised in 1958 by Dr Michael Pistor as a medical technique used to treat conditions including rheumatology, vascular diseases, sports injuries and to improve the circulation. However, it was quickly discovered that Mesotherapy proved highly effective in treating aesthetical conditions like cellulite. The word “meso” refers to the mesoderm, or the middle layer of the skin, which is where the Mesotherapy is focused when treating cellulite.

How does Mesotherapy work?

The way Mesotherapy works is by stimulating the mesoderm layer of skin via the injection of small amounts of natural, homeopathic agents and vitamins. The aim of these injections is to break down the cellulite, improve circulation and boost lymphatic and venous drainage. Vitamin C is injected into the skin as it improves the tone of the overlying skin, giving it a more taut appearance.

Mesotherapy is a quick and relatively pain-free treatment. In fact, patients can usually carry on with their daily activities immediately afterwards. Most patients will require two injections each week, across a course of around 4 to 8 weeks. Once the treatment course is complete the patient will be able to see noticeable, measurable results that are long-lasting and require little maintenance.

Mesotherapy treatment is the perfect alternative to liposuction for those that don’t fancy surgery. It’s much less invasive, with a much quicker healing time, and the results are just as good, if not better! Mesotherapy treatment may take a little longer to issue and show results than liposuction, but non-invasive treatments tend to carry far less risk. This, and the cheaper price point, is why more and more people are choosing Mesotherapy over liposuction nowadays.
